Robo’ Lyon, the first French team to take part in the FIRST® Robotics Competition

Saint-Romain, February 14, 2018 – Created by Dean Kamen, the inventor of the Segway, the FIRST® Robotics Competition is one of the robotics competitions that receives the most international media coverage and attracts the attention of the world’s top schools. The competition is supported by many multinational companies and organizations such as Google, NASA, and 3M

The FIRST® Robotics Competition is one of the four programs initiated by FIRST®. Its goal is to make young people seek to innovate, and develop their entrepreneurial spirit from a young age. These young student entrepreneurs have just a few months to build a team capable of operating like a real company: human resources, project management, marketing, communication, partnerships, and so on. The competition also requires cutting-edge technical skills: mathematics, mechanics, robotics, programming, CAD… as well as strategic skills.

The objective is to design and build a robot from start to finish in six weeks.

The pupils of Robo’Lyon will participate in the regional competition in Montreal from 1 to 3 March 2018. Here, they will have to demonstrate the capabilities of their robot, which has to manoeuvre around a field for 2 minutes and 30 seconds with 5 other robots. The teams must complete several missions: take ownership of a switch and scales by moving cubes, climb the scale…

With its 3D library used by millions of CAD designers and engineers, TraceParts is proud to be lending its support to 25 high-school pupils who will be representing France in Montreal. We wish them every success!
