SCAIME: A French SME specializing in industrial weighing

Based in Annemasse, France, SCAIME is a mid-sized company of around 100 employees, operating two production sites (France and China) and generating more than €15 million in revenue, with 50 percent coming from exports.

SCAIME’s core business is industrial weighing, with a wide range of sensors and weighing controllers for the automation of food packaging machines and material processing installations (silos, hoppers, conveyors, etc.). This activity accounts for roughly 80 percent of its revenue, with the remaining 20 percent coming from other measurement sensors (force, torque, displacement).

SCAIME distributes its products worldwide through a network of around 70 distributors, along with a sales office in Germany, another in Italy, and a sales subsidiary in China. Its main customers are packaging machine manufacturers and engineering firms designing complete production lines.

From a specific client request to a service offered to all customers

Historically, SCAIME provided 2D drawings and STEP files, often upon request. As 3D CAD became widespread, design offices began requesting files tailored to their specific CAD environments.

The move to TraceParts originated from a major industrial client:

SCAIME could have simply uploaded a few references to meet that one requirement. Instead, the company saw a broader opportunity and decided to offer this service to all its customers. After comparing several providers, SCAIME selected TraceParts for multi-format modeling and distribution of its components.

What started as a client requirement became an added service for all our customers. We could have uploaded a single product for that client, but we decided to build a complete 3D file offering through TraceParts.

A better user experience thanks to the 3D viewer integrated into SCAIME’s website

SCAIME became a TraceParts customer in 2014. Initially, the company used a customized TraceParts area linked to its former website. Its 3D sensor models were available in numerous CAD formats, ready to be integrated directly into customer designs.

In 2018, during a complete website redesign, SCAIME went further by integrating the EasyLink 2 solution:

• 3D viewer displayed directly on scaime.com
• Model downloads available from the SCAIME site while relying on TraceParts infrastructure
• Extended availability of 3D CAD files for standard products

With Easy Link Solution 2, our customers can view the sensors in 3D and download the models directly from our site. TraceParts is fully integrated into our online experience, without us having to manage the complexity of CAD formats ourselves.
