5,000 plastic ducks at starting line for charity event in Amberg

The traditional duck race held by the Round Table 69 Amberg Service Club takes place once a year in Amberg and is a charity event with a difference. After a two-year break enforced by the coronavirus pandemic, on April 24, it was finally possible again to release 5,000 ducks on the water to take part in the race. One of the main sponsors of this event, whose popularity extends far beyond Amberg, was TraceParts.

“Especially at a time that is still dominated by coronavirus, the Amberg duck race is a welcome event for people to come together and revitalize city life after months of social distancing. The fact that the proceeds from the sale of the yellow plastic ducks are donated to local institutions worthy of support and their charitable projects was one of the key factors as to why we decided to back this event as one of the main sponsors,”

says Christian Baumgärtner, Managing Director of TraceParts GmbH.

It was 3.30 p.m. and time for the race. Just over 5,000 plastic creatures made their way from the Fronfestgasse bridge, heading toward the Stadtbrille building at the Amberg district office. Twenty-five exciting minutes later, one duck finally managed to break away, having previously drifted down the Vils for a while in a large bunch with other ducks under the watchful eyes of the numerous spectators. The prize for the owner of the winning duck was an exclusive bonfire concert by the band Inchoate, which also provided a soundtrack for the event until late in the evening.

The proceeds from the event will go to a number of good causes, including the Lebenshilfe Amberg basketball team to support their participation in the 2022 Special Olympics, the Social Service of Catholic Women, and Ukrainian refugees.
